The ashes of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry will be blasted into deepest space next year.

Those of wife Majel and James Doohan, who played Scotty, will accompany Roddenberry, who died at 70 in 1991.

They will travel on a Celestis spacecraft powered by sunlight and made to withstand high temperatures.

“What’s very cool about this is that it’s science fiction meeting reality,” a Celestis spokeswoman said.

The solar sail’s journey will be captured by cameras on board the craft and streamed live online.

The flight will not be the first time the remains of Roddenberry, who died in October 1991 at age 70, and Doohan, who was 85 when he died in 2005, have been in space.

Roddenberry was part of Celestis’ inaugural flight in 1997, when his remains were taken on a trip into space before returning to Earth.

An urn containing some of Doohan’s remains were sent into space last year.

Sending cremated remains on the trip costs £8,000.

Majel Barrett was hot back in the day  >:D

TBH didn't know she was dead (probably still hot though  ;D)

Explains why she didn't appear in this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2732442/?ref_=sr_1 (only ST franchise she never appeared in)
