the normal saline shouldnt be that had to find, worse case idea is that it can be found in the contact lens section in a store. as for the Salbutamol, well that is a prescription substance if memory serves me right.

my Mother had asthma and used albuterol inhalers so I have some understanding. if this is being used thru a nebulizer as a bronchodilator then there are some alternatives if worse case situation arises.

also if you are able to get to Toronto or Buffalo, Ny you should be able to get both items

You know what you're talking about, kayos.

Albuterol won't work.  Fifty years ago, it might have worked but 50 years ago, Albuterol didn't exist.

My Pharmacist, a Doctor of Pharmacology, has checked every major city in Canada and the Northern United States and found only one (1) 10 cc Bottle of Salbutamol Sulphate Solution.

If all of the major and minor Pharmaceutical Companies have ceased producing Salbutamol Sulphate Solution, the resulting Death Toll will number somewhere in the neighbourhood of 25,000,000 people.

A Temporary Solution, usually reserved for Emergencies Only, is 0.10 cc Epinephrine Hydrochloride 1:1000 Solution injected into the Muscle located on the Outside of the Upper Left Arm (presuming that the User is Right-Handed) via a B-D 1.0 cc Disposable Insulin Syringe.

Epinephrine Hydrochloride 1:1000 Solution is commonly available at virtually all Pharmaceutical Outlets as it is the First Line of Defense against a Myocardio Infraction more commonly known as a Heart Attack.

Fifty years ago, *this* method was my Only Defense against an Asthma Attack.  Within the intervening Two Score and Ten Years, each of my General Practitioners (Dr. Herbert Clark Balmer, M.D., C.C.P.S. (Deceased), Dr. James "Jim" Alexander McPhee, M.D., C.C.P.S. (Retired) and Dr. David John Beecroft, M.D. (Retired)) have prescribed a 30 cc Ampoule of Epinephrine Hydrochloride 1:1000 Solution (preferably beyond its Expiration Date, as its cost falls to $0.00, even though the stuff never expires).  However, my current General Practitioner, Dr. Jacob John Scheeres, M.D., C.C.P.S. hasn't awakened as yet.

No matter.

My Medical History, with Barrie's "Medicine Shoppe", stretches all the way back to March 1991 and John Beecroft's prescribed medications.  If worst comes to worst, and more than likely it will, I'll use that History to my Advantage.

Addendum
In Canada there exists a Convention between Doctors, i.e., Doctors do not address each other as "Doctor" unless they want to insult the Doctor.  As I have three Doctorates (only one of which is in Medicine) I only address three Doctors as "Doctor".

Nomenclature
M.D. = Doctor of Medicine or Medical Doctor
C.C.P.S. = Canadian College of Physicians and Surgeons

You know what you're talking about, kayos.

Mother had Asthma and suffered from it for her entire life (1950-2002). Complications from it lead to her death from pneumonia. She got a cold one autumn, like she did every year that I could remember since being a small child, only that one killed her.

My first experience with true terror/fear was watching her have an asthma attack when I was 4yrs old. I knew and understood what was going on and that I couldnt do anything about it. I then made it as point to always know where her inhaler was, just in case.

now take this next piece of totally unsolicited advice as information gathered by my Mother over 45+ years of use and study of ways to help her breathe

get some marijuana. a higher CBD-type strain would be better (pain management) and low THC level (psychoactive). would then recommend to ingest through inhalation by vaporization. they didnt have vape tech before Mom passed, but will attest to her smoking it for 30+ yrs and it helping her. and yes, this was rolling it up and lighting it on fire smoking.

marijuana is a bronchodilator. and yes she did have some people in the medical field tell her off the record that yes it would help her. (they used the title doctor and had nice framed papers on the walls with lots of letters on them)

I will also submit as witness, she would take a few puffs off a joint, and she would be able to breathe better afterwards and would produce a better result then 2 puffs of her Albuterol inhaler.

I offer any help I might be able to provide to make sure that you get to continue riding around the local star another few times and get to breathe better.

I went by another route, kayos, one that still puzzles people...with the exception of Jacob Scheeres.

At the age of 10, with my Father's permission, I purchased a package of "Black Cat" Cigarettes for 10ยข.  They usually lasted me about two weeks and I never had tto borrow any money from anyone to buy them as I had an Eavestrough-Cleaning Business that earned ~$500 per year.  I'd had that Business for just under five years (but that's another story).

At the age of 12 I developed Bronchitis and had to, more or less, drop-out of Grade 9.  I didn't fail all of my Courses.  I passed both English and Mathematics but flunked the rest.

In July, of hat same year, the Toronto Transit Commision Expropriated (a fancy word for "Stealing") our $250,000 Family Home and Hospital for $50,000.  Dad was told that we had one year to get out.

By that time, my Bronchitis had become Full-Blown Asthma.

Did I continue to smoke Cigarettes?

Yes.  Something in the smoke relieved all but my Major Attacks of Asthma.

Fifty-three years later, Jacob and I identified what chemical was relieving my Asthma Attacks: Hydrogen Cyanide in microgram doses.  Hydrogen Cyanide, like all Cyanides, dillates Blood Vessels and increases the Geart Rate which is exactly what an Asthmatic needs.

Just to be on the Safe-Side, though, Jacob ordered three MRI's to investigate: my Lungs, my Heart and my Cardiovascular System.

When the Test Results came back, they revealed: the Lungs of a Non-Smoker, a slightly Enlarged Heart and absolutely nothing amiss with my Cardiovascular System.

What I haven't mentioned is that, under the direction of James Alexander McPhee, while Jennifer and I were Engaged to Marry, I quit smoking twice and, within a week, went into Near Respiratory Failure.  Had Jenn not known that the Attack was severe and called 9-1-1 in time to save my life, I wouldn't be writing this, now.  I would have died before we were married.

After the second Nearly Fatal Attack, the Chief of Internal Medicine sat us down and said, "The law forbids me from telling you what you must do.  But nothing forbids me from telling you that you have two choices.  You can attempt to quit smoking a third time.  You might live for two days.  Or you can continue to smoke, as much as you are now, if not more as you age, and live another 40, 50 or more  years.  Your choice."

I'm still smoking but, as I'm down to my last pack, I'm going to have to fork-over $100 for one Carton of Non-Native Cigarettes today.  I usually pay $40 per Carton for Native Cigarettes which are actually better for me.

GlaxoSmithKline has finally begun producing Salbutamol Sulphate Inhalation Solution, again.  They stopped production six months ago for reasons unknown.  It might have been that Jane Public's guesstimate, that there are two thousand Asthmatics in North America, was believed.

For whatever it's worth, there are over 2 million Severe Chronic Asthmatics in Ontario, alone.  Best guesstimate indicates: 20 million Severe Chronic Asthmatics in Canada.  Haven't any reliable data for our Southern Neighbours.

One week ago, I received twenty (20) 2.5 mL Polynebs for my Nebulizer (the prescription calls for 60).  Ain't much but it's more than the 2 mL that I had (and have) of Salbutamol Sulphate Solution which needs to be mixed with Normal Saline Solution, one milliliter at a time.

In other news, kali has finally managed to get her "new-used" computer to boot up but hasn't gotten around to installing the Wireless Internet Software.  Her Big Brother (who's two years younger than she is) knows as much about Computers as your average Field Mouse does.
